The Acura ZDX and ZDX Type-S Returns As An EV.

Today Acura has announced that the ZDX has returned. It is no longer the Crossover Coupe that was ahead of its time, it now has a traditional design but under the hood it has some new tricks. As you might have guess the new ZDX is an EV, but not just any EV, in Type-S trim it will deliver 500 AWD-horsepower, this is Acura’s Performance EV. The base ZDX is no slouch either, the A-Spec will deliver 340 horsepower in a single motor configuration driving the rear wheels, there will also be a dual motor AWD configuration.

Acura is projecting a range of 325 miles in the single-motor A-Spec configuration. The Type S with its dual-motors and 500 horsepower is projected to get 288 miles of range. These are not record breaking numbers but should put the ZDX right in the middle of the pack.

Now, Acura has positioned this as a performance luxury SUV so lets check out some more details about the Type S. Acura says “The ZDX Type S will define Acura performance for the electrified era”. We already know it has 500 horsepower but along with that comes a height adjustable air suspension, performance-tuned adaptive dampers and massive 15.6-inch Brembo™ front brakes with eye-catching 6-piston yellow calipers. Drivers can customize the driving experience with multiple drive modes, including a Sport mode for maximum acceleration and response. Acura also fitted the Type S with their largest wheels to date coming in at 22 inches with a nice machined finish.

While Acura focused on the performance they also outfitted the interior nicely. ZDX and ZDX Type S will feature Bang & Olufsen’s latest 3D Sound Control that features brushed aluminum speaker grilles laser etched with the Bang & Olufsen logo. The ZDX also features 22-inches of high definition digital screens. You get a nice 11-inch digital cluster and an 11.3-inch infotainment screen that is controlled via touch screen that you could use to access Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.

Keeping all those goodies running is a 102 kWh battery. To keep that battery charged Acura says the ZDX has DC fast charging capability up to 190 kW. Acura says that using a fast charger for 10 minutes will fill the ZDX A-Spec’s 102-kWh battery pack with enough energy for 81 miles of range in 10 minutes.

The 2024 Acura ZDX and ZDX Type S should be arriving early 2024. Acura projects the ZDX to start in the $60,000 range, with the Type S landing somewhere in the $70,000 range.
