Today McLaren Automotive announced the plans to invest £500 million to expand its UK manufacturing, engineering and operations with includes adding a performance SUV to the portfolio.

With this investment in manufacturing future McLaren powertrains will be designed and built in-house. Starting with two new engines and transmissions which will support the company’s hybrid engine strategy that started with the McLaren P1.

Part of this expansion will be at the McLaren Production Centre in Woking and its carbon-fibre manufacturing and research facility in South Yorkshire. All in the expansion will create at least 1,000 new direct and indirect jobs across McLaren’s UK operations.
McLaren did not give much more information on the performance SUV at this time, but given how well other performance SUVs’ have been selling this seems like a good idea to help McLaren keep selling their supercars.
